Using BFD as a Window Into Place

Dan Gillmor, one of the leading gurus of web journalism, knows a good representative "place blog" when he sees one. The longtime tech writer for Silicon Valley's hometown paper (the San Jose Mercury News) and author of the seminal book We The Media, is building a new search tool called Placeblogger, from his perch at Harvard's Center for Citizen Media. In an election round-up used to demonstrate the experiment,
he points to coverage on George Nemeth's Brewedfreshdaily.

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out, John.

A correction...Lisa Williams wrote that piece, not me.

Exactly. I wrote about Placeblogger a few weeks back (10/06/06) and Lisa Williams posted some nice comments - I pointed her to BFD among other possible place blogs for the area. Sorry I still don't know how to embed the link in Blogger! Probably very simple html?

Thanks, Dan. I did notice that discrepancy shortly after I posted that. I should have said Dan G.'s Harvard colleague.

One more correction. Placeblogger is Lisa's project. I'm just helping out in a relatively small way.

Okay, Dan, corrections noted. Please just remember that you once agreed to come to Cleveland when you get the chance, to help us think about how to do citizen journalism better. It would be especially interesting if we can get you and your friend Craig Newmark here at the same time, since he went to college here.

Don't worry, Gloria. When (not if) that comes to pass, we'll all work together to make that happen.
